We are pleased to announce that the Isabela International Film Festival 2024 will be dedicated to honoring the incredible career of Modesto Lacén, actor, teacher and cultural manager from Loíza, Puerto Rico, whose contributions to Puerto Rican and international cinema fill us with immense pride.

Modesto Lacén, an actor, teacher, and cultural manager from Loíza, Puerto Rico, with 32 years of experience in the performing arts, Modesto's dedication to his craft and his impact on culture, both in and outside of Puerto Rico, make him a true ambassador of our rich heritage.
A graduate of the University of Puerto Rico with a bachelor's degree in Drama, Modesto has continued to refine his talents at prestigious institutions like Circle in the Square and The Public Theater in New York. Currently pursuing a master's degree in Cultural Management and Administration at the UPR, Río Piedras, his journey is an inspiring example of lifelong learning and commitment to cultural excellence.
Modesto Lacén’s accomplishments span across theater, television, and film. His celebrated performances in productions such as Celia: The Life and Music of Celia Cruz, La Barbería, Infinito enquanto dure, Romeo and Juliet, Gardel… and DC-7: The Story of Roberto Clemente have earned him recognition on international stages, including Off-Broadway. In Puerto Rico, his roles in Medea, Los vecinos de arriba, Time Stands Still, Twelfht Night and TOC TOC have solidified his status as a leading figure in local theater.
On television and streaming platforms, Modesto has captivated audiences with roles in Celia, La esclava blanca, Nicky Jam: El ganador, Fantasy Island, Start up, and Love of my life, currently on Netflix. His impact on film is equally remarkable, with standout performances in El chata, Tu me manques, He matado a mi marido, Plane, Las dos caras de Jano, Blue Beetle, Once upon a time in the caribbean, La Pecera (GOYA nomination), and many more. His work continues to reach new heights, with six local films completed this year and a co-production with the Dominican Republic, bringing his total to over 70 audiovisual productions.
It is with great pride that FOCPR and the Isabela International Film Festival 2024 dedicate this year's festival to Modesto Lacén, celebrating his extraordinary achievements and his ongoing contributions to Puerto Rican culture. We look forward to honoring his legacy and showcasing his inspiring work.
